LT1 Engine swap questions
LT1 Engine swap questions
have some questions about putting a 96 LT1 in a S10 blazer. I know of one for sale but it needs minor finishing. he drove it on and off the trailer so it runs but said it needs things like radiator hoses. my question is with it being reverse cooling I know in a camaro the system needs to be bled and such. will it work the same way in a S10 or would it be a good idea to just reverse the hoses on the radiator? ie..top engine hose going to bottom of radiator. any other swap problems I should look for? also said it has a th350 trans and it 4x4....it won't confuse the computer having something other than a 4l60E and make it run and shift wrong will it? with no radiator hoses it obviously hane't been tested that I know of.
I hate the cooling system on these cars! If the LT1 radiator will fit in the blazer, I'd just use it.
About the trans........ It would be a lot easier to use a 93 computer, because those came with non electronically controlled transmissions. Using a 96 computer I would think would be more work because it's OBDII, and therefore monitors a whole lot of sensors, circuits etc.

I am also kind of wondering about this. Not for me personally, but for my friend with an S10. He hates the crappy 4 cylinder, and really wants to run with my Z. I told him to just buy a Z28! but he likes his S10, just not the engine. So, any info you guys come up with would be awesome, maybe, just maybe, ill be letting you know how it went for him!
some very good things to think about. I havne't actually gone to see this vehicle yet and the guy selling it didn't build it, but that is a whole nother story. but i will check and see what computer they used and I think the radiator is a balzer rad. it does have headers and dual exhaust so it might have been switched to OBDI to make it simpler anyway. jsut things to check out.
if i had lots of time and money id sell my Z... buy a ZR2 and slide in an LT1. Ive seen pics and a 350 fits in there like a dream.. almost seems GM made the S10 just large enough for someone to put in a V8 with little trouble.
well I was mistaken about a few things. the engine is a 94 LT1. it has been in the blazer for about 20K miles, so the swap was complete or complete enough to at least drive it for a while. and now it has been sittin in heated storage for 1.5 years. i'm going to go check it out tomorrow(thursday) and see what the whole story is. this should be interesting.
well I went and looked at it and to make a long story short.....i'm gonna buy it(pending the final word from the wife). it has a front driveshaft, T/C and all that. it is the rear drive shaft that isn't in it due to he changed the rear end(had a currie 9" so he swapped it for the stock one in his typhoon) and never hooked all the stuff back up, so at least it will roll. the radiator is hooked up fine as it should be so don't know what he menas it needs a radiator hose(maybe leaking). and the cap isn't in the radiator it is inline with the top hose so it must be a conversion radiator. also has 2 electric fans. headers, dual exhaust with dual cats so it's even legal. custom interior(seats/headliner), sport mirrors, typhoon bumper and rear end, traction bars, and a 3 inch cowl hood.
he drove it on the trailer and off the trailer when he bought it and parked it in storage so I think a battery, some fresh gas and it should at least run, which would be nice to at least get it on a trailer/tow dolley....then put a front bumper on it rear drive shaft, rear brake lines and it will almost be ready to drive......depending on what else happens after that.
It is problaby a little heavier, but I would guess this to get CLOSE to the MPG I get with my camaro....and CLOSE to the same 1/4 mile time since it has headers and CAI....and who knows what else is inside the motor that he felt it needed a Currie 9".
