Smile The LT1 Engine

I was wondering, what is it that limits the LT1 engine from reaching 450+ torque and 450+ horsepower mainly focusing on torque. I am wanting to do a build focusing on torque, and hoping the horsepower will just follow. I want a vigorous wheels stand car.

Thanks, John

Only thing separating the LT1 from 450 HP/tq is $$$$$$$$$

Google Advanced induction Eilwien engines ETC as for the wheel stand you will need suspension work and a good driveline for that

I think for a wheel stander horsepower and torque go hand in hand. Torque to get it up their, then the horsepower to carry it the distance. Iv never built one, just something to think about maybe.

Like the guy above said, check out advanced induction, or loyd elliot.

punch it out to as many cubic inches as you can get.

That would be a good start, id go 396 max, 383 be much safer however. Some have went 396+ but that costs some cash, or so iv heard.

450? Not THAT bad, you don't even have to go to higher cubes. I'm at a little over 400 now and I have no bottom end work done to my car. If you want a complete list of my mods shoot me an email.

Besides more cubes, I would think cam selection would make the difference. For example, on my first build I went with a 383 with a CC 305 on a 112 lsa. With mildly ported heads it made 388 rwtq. The hp would max out about 5700rpm, but even at 2500 rpm it was already making 350 rwtq. I'm sure with good heads the numbers would have been much better.

you have along ways to go.....

put it in a vega with a t-brake it will stand up all you want, then you can bust all your **** up when it comes back down.

No offense to you but this is just a stupid question......nothing technical about it at all. Reminds me of the honda kids.....

LT4 intake isn't a really good choice. If I were you I would just save the cash, get the intake port matched to your heads and have it bored out to 58mm. Seriously save your money!!!

well thats what i was thinking, because for less money i can just do as you discribed to the stock intake and have pretty much the same thing, but im hearing that some people are modifiying like a carb. style intake. would something like that be worth it?

Seems you are looking to stay n/a. You will need a 383 nice set of heads and a good size cam. Or you can stay stock bottem end with a killer set of heads and solid roller cam. On a N/A motor the heads are where the power is made, You will need to drop some $$$$$$ on your heads.

well the stock bottom end has 115,000 on it and im affraid that if i spent all kinds of money on the heads, then it throws a rod, then im out all kinds of $$$$ but i would like to be throwing a 150 shot in the far future, but would like to make it as wicked as i can now with the NA

Ya I would go and rebuild it then; might as well stroke it whial your at it. I think if you build a 383 with a wicked heads and cam package, you will not need the nos. You will need some sticky tires, suspension work and a strong rearend. Because all that power will mean nothing if you can't get it to the ground.
