lt1 custom intake

alright, i might be getting an lt1 soon (when i find the right car) but this question has been bugging the sh** outta me
can you make your own custom intake for the lt1?
i really don't want to pay like 200 bucks or something for an intake
like with my 3.1, all i got was a filter and some 3in pvc piping and hooked it up (only like 50-60 bucks too)
it looks like it could work just the same on the lt1, except something might need to be adjusted to fit it to the intake elbow ( i guess that' what you call it, the part that attaches to the tb) because i'm not sure if that intake elbow is 3in or not

btw, i'm not interested in looks, just want somethign that works the same

When you find that right car, it might already have an after market CAI.

Yes you can make your own. For the record I have a 4 inch piece of Heavy duty flexible rubber tube that goes from the MAF to my 9x6 conical K&N filter. I can post a pic of it if you want. The hose has a piece of metal wire spiraled in it to keep its form.

The aftermarket CAI all look stock anyway so I said screw that I'm making one. Cost me like 10 bucks for the hose I think I bought 3 feet of it. I had the hose clamps needed and the only other thing I needed was a K&N filter. cost me like 50 bucks maybe 60. I forgot how much the filter was.

yea, i was thinking along those lines
i think i might have something close to the same filter on my 3.1, some kind of ricer huge filter, but it does the job
i think i'll probably go with pvc pipes just so i don't have to worry about it keeping its "form"
thanks for the help, just wanted to see if someone else has done a custom intake
anyone else, feel free to post what you did too
thanks guys

hey zlt195, if you can post a pic, thatd be great, thanks

I made one out of 3" PVC. Its not pretty , but it has to be better then stock. To mate the PVC to the MAF, I used a 3" to 3" coupler and used a dremel to make it fit onto the MAF end. Total cost with filter was about $45. http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...41_97_full.jpg
