LT1 crankshaft advice

Hey guys,

I won this eagle 4340 crankshaft from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=110031647486 When it arrived i opened the box and on the front of the crank it says CAT WTF I called Chad (Golen Engine Services) the seller of the crankshaft and he told me that Eagle and CAT are the same company and sometimes they send there cranks out with either Eagle or CAT stamped on the front. I'm like OK, but I still don't buy it. Is Eagle and CAT the same company, like Holly and Lunati?

Upon further inspection of the crank I saw this: http://216.154.237.245/eagle/pic02.jpg does this look normal? Here's another pic http://216.154.237.245/eagle/pic03.jpg I just want to make sure what you guys think before I call Chad and look like an idiot.

Thanks for your help.

Re: LT1 crankshaft advice

definately NOT the same company...both cranks are forged in china but eagle is considered to be a better crank & usually priced higher than cat

Re: LT1 crankshaft advice

Even if they are the same company, you paid for "Eagle part number 435337505700" and received "CAT part number XXX"

That is a scam and you should not only demand a return/refund, but also report them to ebay.

Re: LT1 crankshaft advice

It wouldn't surprise me if the same lame *** Chinese foundry did the forgings for both companies, assuming they don't just buy them from the foundry de jour. But, at least in Eagle's case, I have to admit they do the finish machining and inspection here in the US (supposedly). CAT, who knows? This is another reason why I don't buy Chinese parts and why I have made a controversial assertion before: to use the Chinese stuff effectively you need to know more than for the high quality domestic parts. The chance of a "bad" part that is either grossly defective or out of spec is much greater. So, you have to know what you are looking at and have the tools and skills to do a proper inspection. This should be done for all cranks, but the chance of a bad one is a lot greater for the imported stuff.

Anyway, wisely or not you bought an "Eagle" crank and that's what you should have gotten. A place that builds engines shold know better in any case and you should file a dispute with eBay.

Re: LT1 crankshaft advice

that looks like a mistake and it's probably an honest mistake. Like you were saying give Chad a call and tell him about it. He is a very nice and reasonable person and very honest too.

Karl: this is not a knock on Chad, who has a good reputation (and you apparently have personal knowledge). But in the original post the guy said "I called Chad (Golen Engine Services) the seller of the crankshaft and he told me that Eagle and CAT are the same company". As I said in my post, the cranks may (or may not) come from the same foundry, but I am doubt there have been finished identically. In any case, the ad was misleading and if he paid for an "Eagle" crank, that's what he sould get. And good luck with it (is my bias showing?).

I'm with Rich on this one. Stand up for yourself. You paid for X and got Y. If he won't send you the right crank, open a paypal dispute or file it with the credit card company if you paid that way (hope you paid that way).

I agree, the Eagle box in the pic is also misleading...

Does the CAT retail for less money?

Man Jody... it appears that you just have bad luck with buying cranks online! =( Hope you get it all straighted out.

Re: LT1 crankshaft advice

Well, I was able to talk to Chad and Rich you are right. Eagle, Cat and Scat come from the same forging company that's what Chad told me. Anyways, he's willing to refund my money and he's also paying to ship the crank back, which is a plus for me.
