LT1 core plugs and oil gallery plugs....what is your method of installation?

I have read several ways of installing new core plugs. With sealant, loctite, permatex high temp sealant...etc....and even bone dry.

I can't find any reference in my factory manuals on core plugs, but did find where it told me how to install the cam core plug. Use GM sealant P/N 1052080 on the edges and drive it home. This is the same sealant it mentions to use on the head bolts. So this would be the same as Permatex's high temp thread sealant.

However I've read of many using loctite(even the permanent red!!...mostly blue though....).

I'm almost resolved to use Permatex's high temp thread sealant on them, but would like to hear how others have installed core plugs.

Also, what sealant did you use on the front oil gallery plugs?

Wipe a film of RTV/silicone in the freeze plug bore and drive the plug in, the little excess gets pressed into the gap and wiped smooth.

Front oil plugs go in dry or a little red loctite if you want, then staked in place. If it's a performance motor with a high pressure pump tap for pipe plugs.

Hehe.....

I would not mind tapping them, but I though I've read of a few people breaking off taps in the gallery holes. I would hate to do that.....does it happen when the tap hits the chamfer?

Meh...
They now have 200MPH tape in an aerosol can. What can go wrong?
Yes they are tapped.

I use a tap that I have ground to half it's length so it doesn't contact the step in the bore.
