(LT1) Converting to HEI Distributor - What about the Crank Position Sensor?

I'm currently planning to convert my carb'ed LT1 over to EFI. Currently, I've welded shut the opti hole in the timing plate. This means I'd like to remove the EGR stuff and drill a hole in the intake to fit the HEI distributor. However, what do I have to do about the crank position sensor? Doesn't it work with the opti somehow? Is there a way to hook something up to an HEI distributor to serve the same purpose?

Thanks,
Jason

Your going to have a hard time getting the LT1 ECU to work. It needs the special high and low res signal from the opti to even run. It is a toltally different signal then a HEI or a crank trigger ignition send. You'll have to endup using some 3k aftermarket ECU unless you want to use a TPI ECU.

What year cars had TPI ECUs? The L98s? Is there any advantage to the LT1 ECU vs the TPIs?
