LT1 Catalytic Converter removal
Hello all, new guy here.
Im wondering the consequences of removing the cats off of my 96 Camaro SS. They're bad, and I would really like to spend that kind of money on something else for the car.
thanks for any help.
also, any recommendations on a clutch?[SIZE=2]

Removing them dosn't free up much power at all, unless they are clogged (which may be your case).
Your exhaust will smell a little funny and sound raspy without them. However, if I had a choice between that and paying $200-400 for replacements I would pick the former.
As long as you don't have to pass a sniffer test, you should be fine.

Hooker LT's + Mufflex no-cat Y-pipe + Flowmaster exhaust, E-cutout closed
Same as above, w/ cutout open
Reving on my first true dual setup; Hooker LT's, 3" H-pipe w/ Dynomax bullets
Hooker LT's w/ Dynomax Bullets attached directly to them, N/A pass w/ a bogged launch and a strong headwind
Early spring we are re-doing the exhaust w/ a custom made X-pipe, cutouts off of the headers, and Dynomax bullets dumping at the axle......I'll be sure to post videos of that "crappy sounding no cat setup" too.

Screw emissions stuff.

Yea, sure sounds terrible.

As for yanking off the cats, on your 96 you'll have to get O2 sims for the rear cats.

things i have noticed that DO make it sound like crap without cats:
flowmaster catback
short tube headers
flowmaster catback
broken engine, such as faulty fuel injectors, clogged fuel filter, crappy intake, etc etc.
flowmaster catback
now i've heard maybe 2 or 3 LS1's in my life that sounded halfway decent without cats.

Mmmm. Smells better without the cat IMO.
