LT1 cars in the snow???

for 6 years I drove a v6 86 camaro with a SHOT!!! suspension, untill the last winter I never had any problems and even drove it threw one of the worst ice storms in Oklahoma City history. It slid all over the place but I never left my lane of recked it. I heard the 4th gens are MUCH better in the snow and with snow tires.

I was wanting to pull the A/C out (never use it and to take some weight off the front), maybe the smog crap, a k-member, and relocate the battery to the back along with snow tires. I think that would be a pretty good set up for reliable winter driving (located in Indianapolis). The car I am looking at also has an LSD. I was wanting to also put a torque arm in along with some LCA's would that help plant the rear tires on a slippery surface also or just in dry weather????

The key is snow tires. My Z28 was my only car all through college and I drove it rain, snow or shine. Even with my 2800 stall and heads and cam, i had no problems in the snow with my snow tires on. As long as I don't try to get too crazy, the car did just fine, if not better than the rest of the cars on the road, even in deep snow.

Suspension would help a little, but I agree, tires are your best bet.

Defiently snow tires!! if you put on high performace tires you will go no where, and i mean no where. As far as other mods to help your snow tractions i would just say weight. grab some 50lbs bags of sand or whatever you can get you hands on and have them in the back for when they call for snow. I would say about 200lbs would be good.

With the tq arm and lca's i wouldnt really worry about those for "snow mods" Just spend that money on some good tires.

good luck

Kind of an odd time of year to be asking about snow performance!

Seriously though, these cars work just fine in reasonable amounts of snow, as long as you have good snow tires. I ran the Pirelli Winter 210 Snowsports on my car this winter and they worked great, I never even came close to getting stuck. I wouldn't say these cars would work well in a foot of snow, but anything less than that and they do fine.

I drove my car all winter this past year with Goodyear Eagle RH's with only two minor incidents of getting stuck on steep hills. They're not hard to drive in the snow once you know how its going to handle.

That's no joke. I drove my car through a Maine winter, when it was stock. It wasn't bad, as long as you drive it, very reasonably. After the rebuild, with sport tires. It idled in a circle, in my drive way.

If you have to drive it in snow, then get a good set of snow tires. Otherwise, spare the poor beast and let it sit the winter out.

My car is basically stock....I had snow tires on it and when it was a dusting my car went nowhere. I would highly recommend a winter beater. I am a good driver i can handle my car but in the snow its a no go even with snow tires... i had 225/50/16 snow tires on my car and i couldn't go anywhere. Invest 1000 or less and get a winter car.
