LT1 with Carb

I have a 95 trans am engine that i'm switching to carb (650 CFM)... can I expect hp loss or gain. Also can I use a manual fuel pump with the lt1 block?

Power should be about the same, low end tourque, drivability, and gas millage will be worse. There is no place to mount a fuel pump on an LT!

I assumed he was using an intake with provision for a distributor in the back.

It really depends on how well you set the engine up and have it tuned properly. If everything is in good working order, you shouldn't loose any power doing the conversion.

If going carb you are missing a BIG part of the advantages of using an LT1. If you have not purchased yet consider starting with a gen 1 motor should be cheaper and will have a wider selection of carbed intake to choose from.

If it was a good runner I'd install the engine with FI.

If you're going to run the LT1, go with the EFI and factory PCM. That is what an LT is all about “EFI.” If you don't want all the LT1 high-tech "bells and whistles" you should find a 1st Gen small block engine. The carb and HEI would just be down-grading the LT to basically a 1st Gen engine.

Was anyone killed in the donor car? That wreck looks really bad!
