lt1 camshaft gear

Anyone know if the camshaft gear on the lt1 cams are the same as the 305/350 first gen motors camshaft gear? cuz i put one that someone told me was from a gen I motor in my lt1 with my cc305 cam, and at high revs i here a little clickin , could it be the distributor grinding at the camshaft? mebbe they dont match or something.

Are you talking about the gear on the back of the cam where the oil pump drive slids in? is so then YES they are the same but as far as the front of the cam it is different due to the opti. LT1's DONT have a distibuter on the back of the motor like a standard SBC..we have a POS OPTI in front. as far as clicking it might be your lifters. I would try cleaning out the motor with a bottle of seafoam.

Yes thats what im talking about, hmmm... well when i pulled my magentic plug from the oil pan to change the oil i seen metal color i wasnt sure if it was shavings or what or just clumped up oil, i doubt it cuz its a brand new motor and the oil is clean so im pretty sure the gear is grinding , the kid i bought the distributor told me it was from a sbc from a camaro ,but i for some reason really doubt it, i think imma buy a new one just in case to be safe, what distributor can i buy from like summit that will work safely?

Re: lt1 camshaft gear

there is only 1 dis that will work and it is called a OPTI. we dont have the kind in the back of the motor. summit sells them but I would reccomed getting 1 from a ealer. and the opti has nothing to do with shaving in the oil. you say it is a new motor you can expect SOME shaving in the oil due to everything breaking in. if there is aLOT of shavings there might be some problems. what type of car do you have? TA, Z28 and also what year?

OK well I get it now. I would just call summit and tell them what you have and you need a dis for a LT1 but it has a carb and no OPTI so you will need a DIS for a SBC. Hope this helps if not hopefully someone else will chime in here and give you the help you need
