How much does the lt1 crank, each rod and piston weigh?

If I remember correctly, the stock crank I weighed for comparison to my Crower was in the 55 lb. range.

I didn't weigh the stock rods or pistons, however. I didn't have anything accurate enough to measure their weight in grams... obviously most people wouldn't.

Yeah that makes sense not many people would care since most of the time those are the parts they are replacing... just curious cause I wanted to compare the stock rotating assembly with an aftermarket setup and see how different it was, just a curiosity thing, thanks for the reply.

No problem. Just keep in mind that forged parts are typically going to be heavier than the cast parts they're replacing, especially if you're increasing the throw of the crankshaft or the length of the rods. Pistons usually go the opposite direction if you're building a stroker, because compression height decreases, and with the wrist pin moved up to or into the oil control ring with a longer rod, the overall height of the piston is shorter.

The stock crankshaft I weighed was around 55 lbs. as I mentioned. The cast Eagle 383 crankshaft I bought was almost the same weight, at least by my inaccurate bathroom scale method. The forged Cola 396 crankshaft I then bought was about 59 lbs. (are you getting the idea that I change my mind a lot?) And the Crower billet 396 crankshaft that I ended up with was 36.5.

Forged 5.85" or 6.0" rods are more than likely going to be heavier than the stock 5.7 powdered metal rods. H-beam forged rods will be heavier than I-beam rods because of the additional material, obviously. I believe that the Eagle 6.0" H-beam rods that I originally bought were in the 660-675 gram range. The Crower Maxi-light 94-2s I ended up with (also 6.0") were 505 grams after stroker profiling.

Stock hypereutectic aluminum pistons weigh a reasonable amount, although again, I have no idea what the stockers weigh. I bought a set of off-the-shelf SRPs from IRS originally for my 396, and they were in the 450-460 gram range with pins, IIRC. The custom cut JEs I ended up with were just over 400 with the wrist pins.

So figure that traditional forged parts are probably going to be heavier than the stock components they replace with the possible exception of the pistons, and now you know what the opposite end of the weight range is like.

Thanks for the info...By the way how is the rx-7 swap coming along... as you can see by my name I was planning on a swap like yours so I bought an LT1 and t-56 but ended up buying an f-body and decided to wait till I have a real job and some more money to take something like that on (Just graduated and not much time for a "real" job). Is it running or anything whats left to do??

Lots left to do... still waiting on my engine, for starters.
