Suspension! I've always been a fan of building a platform that can handle well before throwing more power at it. So i would say upgrade lower suspension, stiffen the body, then:

Headers, Gears, RR's, PCM Tune

Gears gears gears. 3.73s. and a shift kit at the same time. make your tranny last longer. i think you have the junk 2.73s now (not sure tho) and if so that's the single best thing you could ever do to the A4. mileage will come down a bit highway. will need to reprogram for speedo change so get a tune while you're at it. very simple to do yourself though if you just change for tune, will cost you $65 for cable and $20 for tuner file and 30 day free trial of Tunercat. with some research and trial and error you can change your shift points, speedo, and a very basic performance tune (adjust timing curve at least safely).

I'm basically in the same boat

I'm thinking:

1) Headers and Y-pipe (probably Pacesetter... maybe coated?)
2) Tune (maybe buy a cable and s/w??)
3) 1.6 RRs
4) Tune again
5) SFCs
6) Underdrive pulleys
7) 3:xx gears and shift kit
8) N2O (maybe... JUST for when you're next to a rustang... otherwise waste of space, $, etc for me)

It is all about the $... boss lady was just busting my 'nads saying "you spend too much on that car"... Well... her POS Kia Sorento needs new plugs (basically 60K service... at 77K ... which is gonna cost $500 or more... NO room to work on that POS, and I can't be bothered.

I figure it is cheaper to slowly mod a car and maintain it that a new car payment... at least that way you know what you're dealing w/.

I like the route of headers, gears and a stall.
