LT1 Block for SBC block?

LT1 Block for SBC block?
Ok, here's the story.
My uncle bought an old beater truck but the starter bolts are stripped out and they tried to helicoil it and cracked the block, so it's junk. Can an LT1 block be substituted for an SBC? I know the LT1 has reverse flow cooling, distributor in the front, etc, but I didn't know if you could still bolt up SBC heads, intake, etc?

It will cost you more to $$$ convert to the SBC heads to LT1 than its worth....
GM LT1 carb conversion intake and may be your fix.... allows use of regular distributor too.

Are the rods interchangeable? I sold the rods out of my spare LT1 block and the pistons aren't any good...so I if I could use the pistons and rods out of the other motor, that would be great

They should be interchangeable but they might also be weaker? What your trying to do is used a LT1 block with the old internals from the SBC? Cranks are probably going to be different 1pc vs 2pc rear main. Also check the pistons are the .030 over or .060 over? Will the clear small chamber LT1 heads? You've got a little project on your hands. There are guys selling good stock motors pan to intake for $600-1000.

The rods are identical in dimension. I believe the later LT1 hads powdered metal rods and were considered an upgrade over the previous offerings. The pistons are different but will fit in the holes... but I don't recommend this approach as you might have valve to piston clearance issues.
To save cash you might just find a set of rods on Ebay and get a set of stock replacement pistons for cheap. That's be safer than what you're thinking....
Good luck!
