If thats true, then there are plenty of people on here whos engines should have given up along time ago. That ol' iron block is plenty strong enough for more than that. The only weak spot is the 2 bolt mains, which are plenty strong for RPM use up to what the factory sets as the RPM limit. However, revving past that for prolonged periods of time is what will do in the engine. Other than that, she is as stout as they come.

He might be referring to the stock rotating assembly. When you start getting higher than 500 hp, something (crank, rods, pistons) is going to take a dive sooner than later.

Nope he was talking about the block because he was bitching about not being able to find a "Race block" for the LT1....only ones he could find we for the LS1 and other engines.....

Hmmm........LS1's are aluminum and LT1's are iron block. Do you want to point out to him that when Ford put the Supercharger on the new Cobra they switched it back to an Iron block? LS1's are mean and can take a lot, but if you get right down to it, I think iron is more durable.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

You're wrong!!!

No, I'm just kidding...

The "Block" itself is fine for almost any application on up like stated above. Its the valvetrain and internals that can't handle it.

Madman, Baxter and Sikora have all made over 1,000 flywheelHP with LT1 blocks. I saw Baxter's after he pulled it out.... 1,125HP and 9.04@155mph in a 3,900# car wasn't fast enough for him. The block was a stock straight 4-bolt LT1, no fill, still in good shape and is being reused by someone else in an 1,100HP nitrous setup. He did decide to switch to a Dart Iron Eagle in order to make some serious HP......

It takes some serious $$ to even get close to the 1k hp level. You'll probably run out of money before you run out of block. And, if you break the block, you can get another one for pretty cheap.

And if you've never seen that happen before, it's quite a sight to see. Those blocks are paper thin.
