LT1 Block Differences

Hey guys, i'm about to pick up an LT1 block to start my rebuild.

Is there a year that would be better than the rest. My car is a 1995.

What differences year to year are their?

Basically, you have two choices. #1 a two-bolt main block; #2 a four-bolt main block. I haven't been able to identify many distinctions beyond that.

They are the same block, but as noted above some (Corvettes and replacments) got factory 4-bolt iron caps and the rest 2-bolt.

Thanks. If I dont expect to see more than 400hp at the flywheel and another 150 shot on top will I need a 4 bolt?

I here people talk about studded mains. Why? Are the stock main bolts tty. I hope not because I reused mine.

A fastener system comprised of studs with washers and nuts is less likely to cause thread damage in the block than a bolt system after multiple use cycles since the stress exerted on the threads is a linear pull rather than a combination of linear plus the rotational friction of the threads. I've used stock bolts on my 4-bolt block for several years with no problems and the motor regularly surpasses the 8000 RPM level.

To the best of my knowledge, in no year were the main cap bolts on the LT1 produced as TTY items although I can't say that I've used a block for each of the years that the engine was produced. Head bolts transitioned to TTY in the later years of production.
