lt1 block

Hey.
I know a guy who is wanting to sell me an lt1 long block. He doesn't know what year it is, but says it has around 70k on it. I saw a picture of it, and it has a little rust, but all in all looks in good shape. I want to start building a motor now, and by the time I am 20 or so, have a really nice motor. I would be keeping only the block and starting over with everything else, with a few minor exceptions (oil pan, etc.). For $300, is this as good a buy as I think it is?

Also, how easy is it to build a great motor from an lt1? I want to get around 400cid with it, with a wild cam, new heads, and a stroker crank. Maybe a supercharger. I want to build it with a carb instead of fuel injection if at all possible. My only hangup is the distributor. I have talked to a guy who put a carb on an lt1 and put it in a 32 Ford. But, since the motor on my 93 Z sits way up under the windshield, I don't think I can get a distrubutor to work. MSD makes a low profile one, does anyone know if it would work? Also, is there any other way to make it work?

Well,Chris Sikora is running a regular Distributer on his Z28,his name on here is Znines.

If you go carb, you wont be running much of a supercharger, and if you get a centrifugal, stay with the fuel injection.
You will have to cut out part of the steel cowl to get a carb/intake combo to fit.

Only takes money to build a great LT1 engine, and you can go 396 ci with ease. That isnt a bad deal, and if you run a stroker, throw out the old oilpan.
