LT1 in 3rd gen

I have a question. I have a 3rd gen and I want to put an LT1 one it. If i can sell my corvette for about 6k do you think thats enough to get a 3rd gen running with an lt1 and a t56. I have a motor just need the tranny and of course fuel setup etc.

6k enough? i dont wanna cut myself short.

For 6k you could do a LS so that is more than enuff for the LT1. IIRC I have around 3k in mine.

really thats it? i figured it would start adding up. tranny, motor, rear end probably. fuel system, inline pump be ok? or you go in tank? but considering i do have the motor already and just gotta rebuild it i guess im looking at like 4.5-5k left over for tranny rear and some fuel gear... but i also need to update the dash? im not sure at what all is involved.

So my wife added up our LT1 in a 2nd gen with a A4 and we are at 7k, the only things I didn't do is rebuild the tranny (bought a rebuilt). My project strated with a $200 LT1 I bought from a guy wanting to do a swap in a Jeep, but the guy had never built an engine, he took it all apart and got scared sold it to me and it ran for the first time last Saturday.

You can get cought up in other stuff I done a rebuild and cam + supporting mods I used the walbro fuel pump. Is your's a carb or fi car? If carb you will need to run new lines. Is your 3rd gen a V-6 or V-8?

Are you doing the work yourself? are you good at wiring? I could do a real nice swap for that much, but the little things add up. If you could get a 4th gen tank and fuel lines that would save you some money. Do you have the skills to merge the two wiring harness's together if you had wiring diagrams? It can be done, but if it's your first engine swap it is always going to cost more. Are you talking a basic rebuild or are you going to get into the "while I'm in there mode" if so that could eat your budget real quick. I have about 7k in my long block so I know how things can get.
Hope this helps.

what do i need to merge? i have an LT4 disassembled waiting to be rebuilt. well just gonna do rings, bearings, cam/heads with LE. i have the wiring harness and everything that goes with it.

i do need a tranny, fuel tank/lines. plus like you said tons of littles things on the way. I have swapped motors, but i have not gone this deep. ive just done swaps, same to same, not old to newer things.

The harness's are the hardest part. included in that are the guages. ones those are done the fuel system will need to be addressed. Then the cooling system, followed by the exhaust.

exactly. all the stuff i know i needed.. and all could add up. i think i can do the fuel system setup pretty basic.. i will do headers, and take the rest in and have some work done.

so basically, the gauges and cooling system. i cant use stock 3rd gen gauge right? im sure i can setup the cooling system easy enough, probably just use a 4th gen radiator?? those work? fitment issues?

I'm sure the stock guages can be made to work. I think you need a conversion box for the speedo though, I used autometer in my car. Either a 4th gen radiator or a 3rd gen will work. If you use the thirdgen rad the hoses need to be modified. I'm running a stock Iroc radiator in my car.

sounding better. i would need either radiator, my old one was leaking. 3rd gen one would be easy enough to get and hoses im sure are not that big of a deal?

ill look into the dash hookups and speedo box.

thanks for the help! giving me lots to look up and write down. dont wanna miss anything.

help from everyone is great. appreciated

Special mods?? Only if you want to keep the a/c and then all is needed is a BFH.
