LT1 305 racing motor...
I was wondering if I built a 'baby' LT1 up to a 305 with forged pistons. Lt4 heads and valvetrain, LT4 carb intake, hooker shorties, true duals w/x-pipe, mufflers, holley 670 street avenger, k&n open element. I think thats about it. I was thinking if I'm lucky, 300hp. What do you guys think? I might be building this motor for a class in the SCCA, it has to be a carbed 305. Thanks!

I think you should start with a regular LT1 block and bore and destroke it since the baby lt1 is a different block altogether.
A 305 would could be a great high RPM motor, but the other problem you might run into is the 7k rpm limit of the stock PCM.
EDIT* nevermind the pcm comment, your carbing it, DOH!

I believe if you can find an L99 motor (the baby 265ci LT1 from Caprices, etc.) you can make a 305 LT1.
The L99 has the 3.74" bore of a 305 small block. Slap an LT1 crank and rods in there and have it all balanced and you'd have your 305 LT1, but with that small of a bore you're looking at poor performance due to valve shrouding, etc. Not to mention the fact that for a road racing motor you'd rather have more bore and less stroke.
The L99 was 265ci. I believe the L99 crank in an LT1 block would make a 327, which doesn't get you to 5.0 liters. I'd be concerned about long term reliability of an OEM crank but I don't think anybody makes any destroked LT1 cranks. You might be able to get there with the right rod length and piston height.

The L99 has a 3.00" stroke if it has 265cubes and a 3.74" bore, that means it has the perfect combo to make a 302 engine. LT1 block with a 4.000" bore and a L99 3.000" stroke will give you the easiest and best way to make a 302.
BTW what SCCA class?

American Sedan. I just heard that I probably won't be able to run that block...damnit! I was so excited O well. Thanks for your help anyways! If you guys know any info on rules to the SCCA's American Sedan category, I'd like to know I know I can buy a book, but I don't have that kinda money right now. This motor/car won't be started for another couple months, I'm just planning. Thanks again!

You are correct, you can't use a Gen II SBC in AS unless something has changed. You will want to buy a rulebook, AS has a lot of little quarks in the rules - that or find a car and copy it LOL.
Best of luck!

The original poster "KwikistZ" has not been on the site since March 2004. "SStrokerAce" was banned several years ago. I don't think you will have much luck getting feedback from them.
