A lot of those cubes on LS1 stokers are from the stoke of the crank. Also, going over .010 bore requires the block itself to be bored, then running larger sleeves, which gets into the water passages. I've heard of many LS1 engines leaking coolant internally from boring the block and using a different sleeve. That's why Speed Pro doesn't make a LS1 piston larger than .010 over.

Most of the LS1 guy's are switching over to the 6.0 iron block, which will take a bigger stroke with out resleeving.

Good info. I didn't know that. I figured all the Gen II based engines were interchangeable.

If you look in the newer Hot Rod or Motor Trend magazines(I forget which) there was a small ad somewhere saying that they make 350-480 ci LT1 engines. Yes, 480! I don't know how they managed that, unless it was a typo.

480, i would think thats a typo, seens as a lt1 is a small block. i just read the highest theyve gone with a small block is 454. yes it can be done. i dont know about with an lt1 but you can have a 454 small block. i highly doubt a 480 lt1.

Unless they take a LT1 based block that is possible of reaching 480ci...

It was a missprint. If you go to the website it is suppose to be 480hp not cubic in.

The "practical limit" for the LT1 block is 421-422 CID, which Mark Montalvo has made a science of. And of course 415, 409, 401, 396, 383, 355, and various other combinations, as well as the stock 350.

The Olds "Rocket" block used to be the block of choice for big cube small blocks. With a raised cam centerline, you can get a crankshaft with a larger stroke in the block, and 434 CID became a fairly common displacement because of this reason. I've heard rumors of Rocket blocks up to 461 CID, but it would require a lot of work. Up to 454 CID is supposed to be fairly easily attainable with the new Motown block.

The LS1's practical limit is 372-382 CID without sleeving the block, I believe. The Katech C5-R block can be taken to 427 CID, and the Z07 conversion that MTI offers includes a 422 CID LS1. I have heard that TPIS built a 436 CID sleeved LS1 (4.125" crank, 4.100" bore), and then there's the 6.0 liter iron truck block and all its possible variations.

Don't LS1's have more space (as in metal) between cylinders?

They share the same 4.40" bore center to center measurement as the SBC and LT1, but the sleeves are what limit the amount of potential overbore on a stock LS1 block, AFAIK.
