LT header install ?

I was wondering, why wouldn't I be able to install the headers from the top of the engine, with maybe the cars up on ramps? Can it be done? What problems would I be running into?

They wont fit physically just because of the way they have to angle in to slide into place

There's an engine, a motor mount, and a K-Member in the way. They wont fit. It's like trying to put 10 pounds of monkey crap into a 5 pound bag. Just doesn't work

Will work. Without heads it's a piece of cake. But then, thats a lot of work all in itself.

Would it be worth it to take the heads off? I have been looking for about 6 months for someone who would let me use a lift/pit. My father won't let me jack it up super high (It's his house ya know) because it is unsafe.

PErsonally, I'd say no. It's a major pain in the ***, plus it's a double pain in the *** to put everything back on. Your looking at an extra 6 hours of work to take the top end off. You only need it 2 feet in the air. Stick your wheels under the chassis and you'll be fine even if it falls (which it shouldnt, use 6-ton jackstands)

I don't have a 6 ton jack. All I have acess to is jack stands and ramps. Jacks are really expesnive too. My dad and some of my dads mechanic freinds say it is unsafe to do the tire thing. How long would it take to take the heads off and do it as compared to taking the time to lift and do it?

Hell, I used 6 ton jack stands on their settings two notches up and still had plenty of room to maneuver the LTs up in there. Its not that bad.

You dont need a 6 ton jack. You dont use your jack to hold your car up, EVER. get 6 ton jack STANDS. They're $25 a pair at wal-mart. 24 inches up is about 3 notches above the bottom with the 6-ton stands. Note: you dont sit your car on wheels/tires. They're in case **** happens. Better a set of messed wheels then for you to die

If I had to guess...........the front tires were probably about 16-18" off the ground.

Ok, so 6 ton jacstands from walmart, that should be high enough. Put tires underneath the front tires for added insurence. Should I keep the E-brake on? Should I put some sort of blocks behind the rear wheels? I need a jack aslo to jack it up. What should I jack it on?
