LT-1 Timing sets...
LT-1 Timing sets...
I'll be doing heads & cam soon, and it's likely I'll be going with the 224/230 XE cam. However, I was reading on Thunderracing.com's website that they recommend upgrading to the LT4 Timing set, which includes the $140 cam sprocket, the $49 crank sprocket, and the $59 timing chain. My question is, are they serious? Or are they full of crap and are just using clever advertising to make some extra sales? What would be the harm in getting another LT-1 timing chain?
You could use the stock one and be fine. The LT4 is a roller chain.I am swapping cams now nd my chain with 70K mi.is pretty loose.I dont beat on it.So I am putting in the LT4.Also if you are obd1 you can use the Cloyes double roller for like $80.00
I removed my stock chain at 57k when I did my cam swap recently and the stocker was a mess, I was really surprised how much slack it had in it. I wouldn't say I was easy on the motor at all though. I went with the $80 Cloyes double roller set, very nice and very precise chain, it had next to zero slack in it when I installed it. If you plan to run the car hard, which I'm sure you do, I would recommend upgrading from the stocker. You could also go with the LT4 timing set, not the ED, it goes for around $170 complete from someone like Jason Cromer, or he sells the ED for around $199 last time I checked.
if you go to www.gmpartsdirect.com they have the lt4 right there on the home page for sale cheaper than that one you were looking at

My Z is a 93, so it's pre-obd1. I really like the sound of this cloyes double roller. Where can I get this for $80.00??? Anyone have the part number???

I assume you can run the Cloyes true double roller on the stock gears? I need a new chain as well. Does this have the Torrington bearings?
What are "ED" ?

OK forgive my ignorance here. New to the LT1 scene
Is there and LT4, and also an LT4 Extreme Duty timing set?
My stuff has 110K miles on it. If I got a new chain, do I need to replace the sprockets too? I don't know how much they wear down...

Gotta get new sprockets too? Bumma. Just stock replacements? Or is there a special sprocket.
I guess it's not smart to put ANY new chain over the 110K mile sprockets?
From what I understnad, torrington bearings have needle bearings on each roller of the chain correct?
