LT-1 randomly dies.....

Need some help guys. My car is randomly just dying. It usually happens at low rpm. I'll be driving and it will just cut out. When I try to start it it's like it has no spark, but if you play with the coil wire, it will start up, then die 100 ft down the road. So I replace the coil wire today and it is still doing it. The SES light hasn't come on yet, so I don't know where to start. I tried to get it scanned at Autozone and they said they couldn't scan it unless the car was OBD II. Any suggestions? I love the car, but I'm fed up with it.

opti, injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires...could be a host of things.

What gets me is that it's not happening all the time. I would think a most of those either work or not.

Did you think about replacing the coil itself? it's only 30 bucks and it won't hurt.

If the coil was bad, wouldn't it be bad through all RPM ranges? If the car is running, I can take it above 2000-2400 and not have any problems at all. Your probably right though, it's only $30, I should just do it. Could this be the EGR valve? how hard is it to remove from the system? Is it worth it?

Here is something you may want to try, I was having the same
problem and while the car was idling in the driveway I started
wiggling wires , When I moved the wire that goes to the ICM
module the engine died , I restarted the engine and moved the
wire and same thing happened .

I adjusted the contacts on the plug and it lasted for 3 months and
started again. Finely soldered wires to the module and have not
had any more trouble.

Doesn't cost to try this either.

Sounds like a great idea. I'm new to the 4th gens, where is this on the car? I think it has to be something like this since it's so erratic.

Sorry I lost the thread and could not find it, someone showed
me how to locate it.

You have probably have found where its located by now, if not,
its located on a metal plate that the coil is mounted to, the icm
is setting just above the coil . Its a small black thingy with a
four wire plug on it , with the engine running just wiggle this
wire to see if its the trouble. ( coil and icm is on front of ds
head , just follow the coil wire from the opti)

Good luck, and let us know what you find.
