lt-1 comp cam

lt-1 comp cam

What all do I need to get the Lt-1 comp cam Comp cam installed. There is a guy in the car parts for sale and it reads this. Should I get this or is this to much? What all do I need to purchase with it? How much more would I have to spend to actually get this cam on? So the bottom line is it worth it???? Thanks!!!

You'll need springs to handle the lift and maybe timing chain and tuning, along with the appropriate gaskets. Check out your lifters, see if they will work or if they need replacing.

i think it is worth it, if it is the cam you want. With your mods, it is a pretty decently sized cam. You are going to need some new springs, new rockers if you want to take advantage of the new lift. I would also put in new lifters since you already have it apart, and new valve seals.

On the frugal side you could get away with just springs and gaskets i would imagine.

Putting in a cam isn't a simple task to do. I've been told it can be as high as $900 to have the cam put in your car. I don't think you will be as happy with the cam w/o having your heads worked on either. Personally, I think you should save for either aftermarket heads or just ported/polished stockers. I want a cam as well, but I'm waiting for summer once I have the entire engine out and rebuillt(355 or 383 plans) to install my cam and hopefully some AFR heads. Just my advice IMO. You also have to be careful with certain cams b/c they will need upgrades such as a bigger stall, gear ratio, and tuning is a must.

Disagree, the right cam can work very very well on stock heads. You do obviously need supporting mods to make it worth it, like headers, good intake, free flowing exhaust, rockers....and you want the safety stuff (ie pushrods, lifters, springs)

I just put an xe224/230 in a buddies car with stock heads, shorties, muffler...along with promag 1.6s, 986 springs, and new lifters...and it feels to me damn strong, at least deep deep 13s but more likely 12s. Feels better than my car did with a 110 trap speed

I'm not saying the cam won't work right w/ stock heads, but if I going through the trouble of installing a cam, I am gonna get some headwork done. That's just me. I want more power...and I know the benefits of headwork when putting in a cam. All I know is, when it's time for my cam to go in, I will be having either my stock heads ported or AFR's put on, b/c I want that extra power.
