LS7 Lifter Oil Feed Hole Orientation (What Way Do They Face In The Lifter Bore?)
I Just installed my LS7 lifters into my LT1. None of my sources specify wich way to install the lifter. one side had a oil hole, the other doesnt.. I installed them with the oil hole facing the middle.. like there is 2 lifter next to eachother I faced the holdes toward eachother.. is that correct?.. Thanks
ok. thanks.. while were on the LS7 lifter subject. what did u set your preload to using these after zero lash?.. I about to do that in 10 mins or so.. Thanks
Not that it really matters, but Im using Comp Cams 1.6RR - 7/16" - NSA
My Manual for my rockers says 1/2 a turn.. That sound good?

not to jack my own thread, but with hydrolic lifters.. how do I know if I colapsed them or not when trying to find zero lash?.. is it somehting I can see?..

they should have the pushrod cup sitting up top against the retainer clip. there should be alot of resistance, you shouldnt beable to push down on them too much without lots of effort
when you go to find zero lash, just twist the pushrod and tighen the rocker nuts til the pushrod is hard to twist but still can twist alittle with effort. Thats about zero lash point.
then crank it 1/4-1/2 turn and your set. They will 'bleed' down since they are not pressurized, so your pushrods and rockers may feel loose after cranking the motor around alot when setting other rockers. Dont worry
start motor up let it idle and build oil pressure, the lifters should fill and pump up. Any noisey ones that are still making noise after alittle while, recheck your lash settings. Possibly rocker is not tight enough

ok. thanks.. I actually can press them down fairly easily with my hand.. but I didnt try to fill them with oil. im guessing that will make them alot harder.
but at this point. settin all of them up is not at the top of my list right now. I did the marker thing and my pushrods are not the right legnth.. Im gettin alot of pressure on one side and close to the exhaust port. I need to get a pushrod checker and find what I need and get new pushrods..

I did get it decked to. they took .017" off one bank and .018" off the other bank. And I do believe the heads were milled atleast a tad (Bought them used so not posative).
but I was relying on the tiny chance that the deeper cups would compensate for the lower deck. But the patern is prety discusting.. I definaty need to get the right pushrod in there..
this sux.. I have people planing to help me put this motor in tuesday.. they were prety pissed when I made the call telling them it wont be ready by then. lol. they been buggin me to finsh for 2 weeks. lol. Well, it wont be ready by tuesday.. but im definatly gettin close!
Im doing research now on checking the valvetrain geometry. somehting thats throwing me off is I use hydraulic lifters.. wont that throw everything off since they will be taller when the engnie is running?.. wouldnt that throw off the whole measurment?..
Do I need to get a solid lifter (Or make one), and an adjustable pushrod.. make it perfect valvetrain geometry, measure the pushrod.. then measure the diffrence between my lifters and the solid lifter I used and add or subtract the diffrence on the pushrod legnth?..
