LS6 into a '97 Z?

Hey,
Just curious to see if an LS6 motor fits into a '97 Z28 with any difficulty. I saw a crate motor for around 5 g's. I thought it might be cheaper than modding my car to make that kind of power. Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

It's the same body as the LS1...and people swap in LS1's into their LT1 cars...so I don't see why an LS6 wouldn't fit. Fit being the key word, but what about the electronics and what not?

Who knows...

Tatanko,
I'd probably need LS1 electronics. I'm just shooting the breeze thinking about doing these things. I'm saving for a house and starting a family. I was looking around to see what would be the most cost effective way to get the car to run 12.0's and still be streetable. The LS6 is 5100 w/out electronics. An LT4 conversion is 2100, before you get the heads and intake polished and ported. Just trying to figure out what would be the best way to go really fast. Thanks for your input.

Yes you can do it, the LS6 is to the LS1 what a LT4 is to a LT1. Its basically a mild heads and cam package. Youd need all of the electronics to go with it, a new k member and of course the matching transmission. The tranny in your car now will not bolt up to a LS1.

Honestly, you can get something like Llyod Elliots LE1 heads/cam package for $1100, get it installed and tuned and have a +400hp cheaper and easier I believe the LE1 package is good for 360-370rwhp... dont quote me on that though. I'd email him ask ask for the specifics. You can even go more aggressive than that if you so choose. He can custom tailor a package to fit your needs. Do a search on the board for "lloyd elliot" and take a look at what people think of his products.

Yea for that much a good cam + heads will be faster......cheaper. When the LS1 guys chime in about you still having the Optispark then go the Delteq route. Then you have a MUCH better sounding motor also
However nothing beats the WOW factor when you open that hood at the track and the ricers see that LS6
