LS1 T-56 in an LT1 Car

My buddy had his tranny go south on him. He got a good deal on an LS1 tranny including, hydraulics, slave cylinder, master cylinder, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, tranny and bellhousing. We plan to attempt this install tomorrow. Does anyone know what problems we may have? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please drop me aline with any advice at 95z@***.net or post up.

I think the bellhousings are different and the tranny wont bolt up. I could be wrong though...

The input shafts are different. I believe it is because the LS1 T-56 is a Tremec and the LT1 version is a Borg-Warner. You could get the input shaft machined (I think that is what the folks that run Viper input shafts do), but that is a lot of trouble to go through when there are lots of LT1 T-56's around. Hope that was helpful.

input shaft differences and slave cylinder setup are completely different...

honestly the LT1 units are stronger, he should try to get another LT1 unit... the new ones are made in Mexico

This is what you need to do. Take apart the tranny and replace the input shaft with an LT1 or Viper input shaft since the LS1 is about an inch or two longer. You will also need to bolt up an LT1 bellhousing obviously. And possible a different clutch fork setup.

The LS1 version doesn't use a fork; the slave acts directly on the release bearing.

Look at the T-56 manual on Shoebox's website.
