Sorry about that. I thought it was a V6 car. Anywho, it looks like his car is an auto. If he was gonna go with a t56 swap, I'd do the motor and trans and sell the LT1/auto and put cam/headers/gas on the LS1 and run 10s.

that would be pricey though. Your looking at new rear-end(12 bolt), suspension stuff, etc. to be able to handle it.

Here is a good question, your from Sacramento right? Well what does California think about the swap? Will it be legal with emmisions, and will they let you do the swap without a CARB #? I know that it is V8 going into a V8 car but you gotta have a CARB # for an intake. I'd research this a little more before you do this swap, it would suck to have all of this in and then find out it can't pass emmisions testing. Any common sense person with any car knowledge will know that that's not an LT1. Spend the money on mods or a 355. I know of people passing with 383's and a mild cam.

LOL. So now the new argument is "Stay with the LT1 cause it makes so little power you don't have to worry about breaking stuff?" Sorry, but I've seen relatively stock LT1s with gas break rearends, and many a car run low 11s with stock suspension. Or is there some magic that makes the LT1 with heads/cam/gas not break parts like an LS1 would? You didn't mention that when 96sflw said you could have 450 rwhp in an LT1.

On the emissions issue, I don't know for sure (none here in SC), but I think it must adhere to whatever is newer, i.e. old motor in new car, must meet car's emmissions, while new motor in old car must meet motors specs. Not too sure though. I believe the LS1 is more emmissions friendly though. Besides, you can always use the $50 pass the test method.

California doesn't work like that. I wish it did then I could just keep my old truck instead of trying to sell before I leave Texas. When you do a swap I believe it must be the original. I may be wrong, but I do know that you have to have a CARB # to pass with anything aftermarket that you can see. That's why you get that cool sticker when you buy things because you have to put it somewhere that the tech. can see it. California sucks when it comes to performing mods, you can't even have a wet n2o system, long tubes, or crazy cams, even if it does pass the butt sniffer. It's the damn hippies that ruin it and there is no going back. I know there is a V8 swap for the jeep, but it is a certain engine and it is CARB approved. It even comes with the little sticker.

Thanks for the replies guys. The motor is from a 2002 Z28. A friend is willing to give me the whole setup for 800 bucks. I have heard nothing but good things about the LS1 motors, and I was thinking of building one up for when my LT1 finally goes. It seems there is alot more work involved then just a simple bolt in and I dont want to make any huge modifications to the car. I also wouldn't be able to resell it because hes only giving me a deal on it if im putting it in my camaro. I'm not sure about the carb # thing. I dont see why it would be a problem when all the ricers out here are swaping in prelude engines into there civics. Thanks again guys for the info!

well if your gonna build it up for when your lt1 goes then go for it. i highly suggest you replace the piston rings to the updated ones though. is the car a wreck? (donor) if so grab the k member youll need it.
