LS1 or 1LE driveshaft???

I'm pretty sure my U-joints are almost gone on my driveshaft. My car also vibrates in 3rd gear around a certain rpm. So i decided that i will get a new driveshaft. Which one of these are stronger? Which of the 2 do you recommend? I was reading that since they are aluminum they can't handle much power. How much power do you think they can handle. The reason i'm decideing between these 2 is because my friends dad can get most dealer parts for almost cost. I noticed that a lot of people like the Denny's DS. Their heavy duty one isn't to expensive. Do you think that would be a much better choice? Any advice would be appreciated.

Get the LS1. I've pulled 1.4's on my with no problem's.

My DS ended up being a FREE MOD I actually got mine from a buddy that was selling his car so we swapped DS's before he let her go

Damn. Good idea. I'll have to check to see if any locals are selling their ls1's.

The 1LE is the stronger of the 2
If you buy them new, the 1LE is only a few bux more than the LS1..

i think the 1le is 1/2'" less in diameter, which means it has a less critical speed, you will get more vibration with a ls1 ds, at higher speeds.

and on the 1le the walls of the ds are thicker. if i remember right.

So you recommend the 1LE driveshaft right. Do they sell those at the dealership also?

The LS1 is 3" diameter

1LE is 2 3/4 diameter but has thicker walls that the Ls1 and uses stronger Spicer U-joints.

If you are buying one new from a dealer the 1LE is only $10 more, I paid $235 for one delivered from Jason Cromer, the LS1 would have been $225. I had the LS1 before this and the 1LE end caps/u-joints look much beefier. I never broke the LS1 but I've seen them break and heard a lot of stories of them breaking so just decided to get the stronger one.

most people go with the LS1 cuz u can find it used for 150 bucks or so at a junk yard. If u buy a new one definately spend the extra 10 bucks and get the stronger 1LE.
Also to correct the statement a few posts above. 1LE's have a higher critical speed which means it has less vibrations up top.

Isn't there a recall on the driveshaft on LT1s? I heard somewhere that if you had vibration they would put in a better driveshaft for free. Anyone hear this?

Yes, there was a TSB on it but they would only replace it for free if the car was still under waranty. Even then they wouldn't always do it. My stock ds was replaced by the dealer with an LS1 at around 25k miles, but that was only after they replaced my rear too. I was driving it at high speeds one day and the vibration from my pos stock steel ds destroyed the pinion bearing which ended up ruining the rear. It was fine with me, came out of it with a brand new rear and LS1 ds for free
