low voltage to ignition problem.
low voltage to ignition problem.
I have been staring at wiring schematics for about an hour trying to chase down all the ignition related wiring. The car feels weaker than normal and the voltage guage is showing low voltage. Using a multimeter the battery is showing an average of close to 14 volts when running, and about 12.5 with the engine off. All the fuses are getting close to 13.5 volts except the ignition and guage fuses in the interior fuse block. So figure thats the problem but what i cant figure out is where the voltage drop is starting at. It seems that all the way to the ignition pin outs on the computer are showing around 11.9 volts with the car running. the Maf looks to be fed from the same ignition wire and is also being affected. Anyone have this problem before? Sure could use some pointers in the direction i need to be looking, thanks guys..
Re: low voltage to ignition problem.
From my observations, it is not unusual to loose up to a volt through the ignition switch (especially in the heat). I have my doubts as to this being your "weaker than normal" problem as the voltage has probably been like that all along.
Re: low voltage to ignition problem.
By weaker than normal i mean i you can feel a change when the voltage is low. The feeling is something i have noticed at other times when i had voltage problems. Looking back at all my old datalogs (datamaster) it showed no less then 12.5 and an average of 12.9 volts at all temps. Since i have noticed this problem it always reads 11.9. I was hoping you would reply to this shoebox. From what i can tell the ignition voltage is what the in dash guage reads correct? Seeing as the in car ignition and guage fuses are on the same wire. Does the computer control the voltage output to the igntion? It does seem that the longer the car runs and the hotter it is that day the worse the voltage loss. I first thought it was the ignition switch since the last time i replaced it the voltage increased quite a bit(this was before this problem occured). but the new switch didnt seem to make a difference.
