low trac sensor
low trac sensor
hey, my low trac light seems to be coming on a lot lately when using my m6 to downshift at lights. i did a quick search with some advice to possibly check the sensor or bleed the brakes. only thing is is that i'm not exactly sure where to find the low traction sensor. any help on where to locate this? or possibly other problems that are causing this. thanks,

there is no Low Trac sensor. The 'Low Track light comes on when it senses a rotational difference between one wheel versus any other. This light means you are using the ABS system to keep the suspect wheel from locking up. The sensors are located at each front wheel and inside the differential for the back 2 wheels.
the light means you're causing one or more wheels to slip. Stop doing that LOL

okay, but the light is coming on when i'm downshifting into third and second to slow down for a stop light. i should have been more elaborate. its not coming on when i'm downshifting to blast off. lately its been coming on quite a bit and on dry pavement. i feel no tire slippage whatsoever. and i'm not really wrapping up the rpm's when i'm downshifting. hope this helps some. thanks again.

On really cold mornings, my Low Trac light will come on, followed by the ABS INOP and TCS OFF lights as well. I believe it is caused by a sensor in the rear end icing over or something.
On cars equipped with Traction Control (ASR or TCS) the ABS system is 4 channel. Meaning that there is one speed sensor for each wheel.
On cars NOT equipped with TCS, the ABS system is 3 channel. There is one for each front wheel and one shared sensor for the entire rear end.
My car has TCS, so it's got 4 channel ABS. It will usually warn me when one wheel spins and the other doesn't. Like when one wheel is in gravel.
If your car doesn't have TCS, then it's either measuring a difference in wheel speed between a front wheel and the rear or between the two front wheels.
I can't tell you how to test the speed sensors, but I hope my rambling helps you.
