Did the pressure change or has it always been like that(my phone wouldnt play video). What mods if any are done to car? What does it do in higher rpm? The factory minimum specs for oil pressure are very low and was brought up not long ago. I think it was 6-7 psi at idle. If it was a sudden change I would be concerned as to why or what. What oil filter are you running(many bad stories about fram).

Re: Factory spec for oil pressure

My haynes manual says that it should be 6 PSI min @ 1000 RPM 18 PSI min @ 2000 RPM 24 PSI min @ 4000 RPM

most people like to see 10 psi per 1000rpm. I am no expert and wish my pressure was higher. Like I said above if its been a sudden change it might be pointing to a problem. Do you have aftermarket guage?

"Way too low", not for an LT1 (generally speaking). Need more details about the car.

I'd say not too bad, then. That would be fairly normal for a car with that age. One thing to note is that the oil pressure sensor can sometimes sense a little low with age.

Re: low oil pressure video.

I do agree with your mechanic that it is a little on the low side. My LT1 has always idled with 20psi of oil pressure(800rpm, with the tach showing ~1000). I have a little more than that now since I installed the high pressure spring.

I think it does mean clearances on a bearing(s) have opened up somewhere. Could be either cam bearing(s) or main(s). I suppose it could be a rod too. Oil pressure is directly proportional to bearing clearances.

Shoebox is right that it could also be a bad oil pressure sending unit. Would not hurt to replace it and see if it changes.

2:30 mark.....my current oil pressure.

Re: low oil pressure video.

There are a lot of factors to consider like oil weight, outside temperature, sending unit, etc. Your oil pressure is fine, stop worrying about it.

Also, the instrument cluster from 4th gen f-bodies is really sloppy and I wouldn't be surprised if it was reading lower than in reality.

I'm jealous his tach reads right. Mine shows 1000 rpm, when it's idling at 800 rpm!!
