Low Coolant Light

Should this light EVER come on? I dont seem to be losing coolant anywhere, no smoke out of the exhaust, no level drops, etc. But yet the light has come on. My car is not overheating at all. The temps rarely ever rise above 180. I'll flush and refill the coolant this weekend, but just curious as to whether or not i should drive it like this in the meantime.

Thanks in advance

The sensor tends to go bad so you might want to check that. Its no biggie but it is anoying. A new sensor from jason cromer is like 30 or 40 bucks I believe.

Do a search on "Low collant light" or similar. The low coolant sensor is known to go belly up fairly regularly. Sounds like your sensor is crapping out. You can just unplug the thing (may on this board use this solution) or replace it. Sensor is here.

Yeah, I've heard it's a common stupid thing for our cars. I get it every now and then when I first start up the car and it's cold outside. I can start up the car and the light will be on. I shut it off and crank it up a minute later and it'll be gone.

I may be way off, but I think the sensor in the water pump is for water temperature.

Bingo! It's the temp sensor for the PCM.

How about if you are losing coolant...its not leaking from anywhere that I can see, no white smoke out the back and no 'milky' oil...? At first I thought it was a blown head gasket but Im not seeing all the symptoms...bad intake gasket is all I can think of...

Sorry to jack the thread...didn't see a point in starting a whole other one...

Check you weep valve on your water pump. If it's got a little liquid you could be evaporating it before it hits the ground. And it also means you water pump is probably going south as well.

Another thing to try is taking it for a long drive (enough to heat it up good) and then check the bottom of the radiator/front end for droplets of coolant.

I think they make that UV tracing stuff for coolant as well, might be easier that the previous two choices
