Low coolant level light...not regular
Low coolant level light...not regular
Ok this week my car (82 000miles) begin to throw me the low collant light in my dash, but not always
I ll explain. When i start the car everything is fine(no lights in dash).I wait 1 min just to let oil moving up in the head and go for a ride. Here the part where it begin to be weird. After 10 min the low coolant level light, ligts up in the dash.Stop the car and watch for leaks(no leak) then restart the car the lights as disapear.
Run for 5 min and it came back.Took the car home and let it sit.Check for leak(no leak). After it cooled check in the rad and it seems to be missing maybe 50ml,check the overflow and everything seems ok.I had coolant in the rad.
Start the car but again no warning lights.Drove the car for 10min and still no lights.Stop to put some gas in it.Restart the car and the 5 min later the lights came back on.
FACT:
-The car starts perfectly
-The car runs perfectly, very strong and no miss
-Doesnt overheat at all even if i punch it hard or really long time at idle(temp stay between the first and second mark on the temp gauge)
-Doesnt seem to have any leaks,no coolant under the pump, hose or road
Things that i ve found:
-Seem to miss a little coolant after a ride of 100miles
-When i start the heater fan to clear the window from humidity when it rain,i seem that i can feal a little smell of coolant
-After i stop the car ,pop the hood and check take off the cap off the overflow ,i can hear some small crispy sounds(just like rice crispie cereal coming out of it.And there a litlle of steam coming out of it(but the outside temp is 33 degree fahrenheit so maybe its normal)
So before i begin to cry and take the head off,is there anything that i can check, test or change.Could it be something else
Tank you

UPDATE:
I just got back from outside(cold and rainy).I ve tried the trick that BUBBA gave me but i encounter new fact...
I start the car and wait 15 mins and check, the lighst was not on yet.I decide to help a little and give him a couple of little throttle(2000-2500rpm).15mins later again no lights. How after 30 mins i still got no low coolant level lights on
I ve check the overflow level and everything was perfect.I just unscrew (just a little) the radiator cap and coolant was spilling around it so everything is full fine.
So since im a really patient guy i ve wait in the car to see if the lights would come on.But it begin to bo a little cold so i started the heater fan and just like a magic trick the low coolant level lights came on after 2 mins
I then disconnect the coolant level sensor and the lights was still there,so i assume that is not a sensor problem.I also try to open the radiator cap to see if it was still full and whats surprising me is that the coolant level was low just exactly at the height of the low level sensor(so again the sensor is good).
I then stop the car and restart it,no lights.I start the heater fan and the lights pop on...
So what the hell
is the connection between the heater fan and my car missing coolant.

You where writting in the same time as me
.Your diagnostic is probably good since my updates shown that the problem only occur when i put the heater fan "ON"Im sure that you have somewhere on your sites a pages that descrive the"how to" take the heater core off
Because im unable to find it.
Thanks

I don't really see why the low coolant light would come on when you turn the heater on. Coolant flows to it all the time, so there should really be no difference.
No "how to" on my site, but those that have done it say it's not very hard-just a little tight under the dash.
Oh, and the light probably won't go out if you pull the connector to the sensor while the engine is still running. There is a "latching" function that keeps the light on during an ignition cycle.

My wife also remind that the same thing happen after my 2 last rides.Everything was fine but my wife told me that it was beginning to be cold inside the car( around 34degree outside) so i put the fan "on " and the 2 times after a couple of minutes the lights pop in my dash.
Kinda confused
