low coolant level light in 94 Z28, need advice

Ok, first off, we don't drive the car much. In fact, 2500 miles in the 18 months we've owned it.

But recently the red "low coolant level" indicator on the dash has come on and won't go off.

I followed the refill instructions per the owners' manual to a tee, bleed valves and all. The system appears comepletely full, but the light won't go off.

Also noticed the temp never goes above 160, or approx the lower 1/4 to 1/3 of the temp gauge. Althougt the electric fan does turn on and off as expected

And the heater doesn't seem to get as hot as it should, even though we rarely use it. Most of the time the car is out in nice weather with the top down.

My first instinct said faulty thermostat, but that doesn't seem to explain the warning light.

the sensor is notorious for going...i swore i had a blown headgasket for almost a week even after checking compression on all the cylinders, and about 5 minutes before i was going to pull my heads i had to try one last thing.

Fill your coolant resevoir, fill your radiator and bleed it properly and such. drive around a while, and just check the resevior from time to time...if there is no coolant missing, your fine.

it's just the sensor...you can either replace it or just unplug it...it's located under the radiator on the pass. side

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm new to the forum, but that's the fastest I've ever had any car question answered on an online forum.

I'll replace that sensor tomorrow.
***EDIT: for $44, I'll just bypass it or try to clean it up http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...e=1178&PTSet=A ***

Hopefully the heater problem is just a stuck open thermostat or something. Not much of a concern here in FL anyway.

Next issue to tackle is the 4L60E rebuild. Has no grab from a standing start until 1100 rpms, then grabs and takes off with a clunking/rumbling sound. And the 1->2 shift is a major slip-fest...

oh, the woes that are F-body... reminds me of my first car(79 Firebird Formula)
