I been having trouble with my car for some weeks now, thinking that its the opti,One of my friends came to test an extra optispark that i have laying around, he unplug the one that is on the car and plug the old one off the car, and plug one of the sparkplugs wires to the optispark and the other end to the sparkplug. He told me to crank the car, then he turn the rotor with the fingers and a big popping sound ,and there was vapor coming out of the intake, what do u think happen to the engine, it still cranks and seems ok. I appreciate any suggestions you can give me on my car.

 

If I understand you correctly (the spare Opti had the 4-pin signal connector from the wiring harness plugged into it), that actually sounds like what's supposed to happen. When he turned the "off-car" Opti by hand, he produced a signal that made the engine computer think the engine was cranking, so it fired the ignition in order to start the car. It probably just ignited some fuel that was sitting in one of the cylinders with the intake valve open, so what you got was a weak backfire through the intake.

 

you obviously have great help. the spare opti apparently works. don't know what the condition of the cap and rotor are. you might want to actually install the spare opti to see if its the problem.

 

Thanks for the help guys. I was scare something bad happen to the engine, and I think i found the problem, the plugs are fouled real bad.
