Hi y'all,
Tonite while I was driving I heard a loud clunking noise coming from dead center of the car, sounded like right under the center console. It only happens on hard acceleration, not flooring it but not just tapping it. It shakes the whole passanger compartment. At speed there is no noise or problem. Only from a stop under hard acceleration. Any ideas? We put the car up on jacks and the noise was not there when we tested it. Once we dropped it we heard it again. I can drive around ok if I don't hit the accelerator. ANY help would be great! Thanks!

Tranny mount huh? What is the best one to go with? Some one said the 1LE tranny mount is the best if it needs to be replaced. What is the part number for the 1LE tranny mount? Is it safe to drive the car in the mean time as long as I don't slam the accelerator? Thanks again!

yeah you should be fine driving it for a little while... long as you go easy on it... as fa as the 1le mount... i've heard some good, some bad... i keep using stockers... and im going thru em at about 1 every 7 weeks
have you recently installed a new catback?? i had that happen when i installed my hooker catback and it was just the ipipe hitting the cross member. Got everything welded down and its fine. If you got a new catback....i would check that first....

I'm gonna get a new tranny mount first thing Monday. Since the 1LE is no longer made I want an LS1 tranny mount. I have a 95 A4. What part number do I need? I also heard I need to order the bolts seperately? I guess I'll also need the part number for those. Thanks y'all.

Sounds like a tranny mount to me. 2 ways to be for sure:
1. Best way is to jack up the car and look and see if the mounts looked ripped or torn. If you got the car on stands, you can jack up the tranny by the tranny oil pan, and you should be able to see the mount separate.
If you have an automatic:
2. Another easy way to check, but definately not the safest. Have someone get in the car, put on the parking brake, and hold their foot on the brake. Rev the car up SLOWLY, and look underneath the car. At a certain point you should be able to see the tranny torque up. BE CAREFUL. If it seems like the tires are going to break loose, get away from the vehicle. You should be able to see the tranny torque up a good time before the wheels break loose (unless you have really bad rear brakes, I guess).
