lots of questions on engine swap
lots of questions on engine swap
I'm removing a 93 engine and installing a 96. Has anyone else done this. I need to know what parts are interchangeable. I want to use some parts off of my 93 if I can like the heads. I'm pretty sure the cam won't swap gut I'm sure some things will.
Ill go ahead and reply to this, but not everything is gonna be accurate.
The 93 Engine will bolt up correctly. The problems you will run into will be in the injection system. In 93 the LT1 was a speed density system, Meaning that instead of the injectors firing individually when it's intake valve opened, they ALL fired at once. There was also No MAF sensor.
In 94, the cars were upgraded to Sequential Fire, and recieved a MAF, and a few different upgrades. There is a page floating around somewhere that explains all of the differences between the 93, and the 94 and above intakes. Someone will prolly link it for you. Sorry if I was'nt more help. Mike

What is the reason you want to use the 93 heads? Some of the later models had a different head casting that had better flow.
You will definitely have to keep the wiring harness with the engine if doing a total swap. If you are not doing a total swap there will be other things you might or might not have to do.

I guess it just depends on what all you want to swap (like if you want to stay speed density or go with OBD-II from the '96).
There are quite few ways you could approach it. Since you want to retain your worked heads, you might just want to swap short blocks. You would then retain all wiring and pcm from your car. You can ignore the crank position sensor on the 96 and if it has a decent vented opti, you will need to get a new harness for it. Swap knock sensors and that is about it.
