Re: Looks like Pacesetter has made some improvements

The slip-fits do suck....I got 3-bolt flanges put on mine. However, it only takes me about 40 minutes to change my plugs, and I am using OTVC wires...so whoever thinks you can't use OTVC wires is wrong, and plug access is fine. Hardest plug to get to is #6, but once you have a method/routine, it's a piece of cake.

Well, any updates on the install yet? I'm seriously considering PAcesetter LTs as well and would like to learn through your experiences with their install.

I won't be doing the install until Sunday evening, but I'll post up when I'm done.

Ive had both pacesetter and hooker LT on my car. The pacesetters are much easier to do plugs on.

That is the truth for sure. I actually like the slip fit design. I made the mistake of using the supplied clamps that came with the ORY kit, and it was a bitch to get the Y pipe off. Last time I did it I used band clamps instead of the horse-shoe type clamps, and i can have the y pipe off in like 5 minutes. Flanges are just another thing to hang down and scrape and get damaged, thats why i never went that route. OVTC wires work great with pacesetters, and spark plug changes are also very easy.

Slip fit suck, it to 2min to pull a hooker y-pipe and 3 hours to pull my Pace true duals. I'm having the collectors welded on before they go back together.

Spark plug change take 15min on a cold motor with pace, and 20-30 with the hooker.

I would trade a pace driverside header for a hooker driver, plug changes would be even faster (#5 sucks with pace). That way all of the tubes run down like the ls1 style pace headers.

Where can I buy the OTVC wire kit. I have seen them on cars but have not noticed them in a catalog or anything.

Re: Looks like Pacesetter has made some improvements

Well I finally got around to installing the headers and prothane motor mounts yesterday. Overall the fit of the headers is great. I did not have any issues with the driver's side hitting the steering shaft at all...plenty of clearance there. There is also plenty of clearance between the front passenger primary and the a/c line coming out of the compressor.

After I removed the intermediate shaft the drivers side went right in from the bottom, and it could have gone in just as easy from the top but I was already under the car. The passenger side went in from the bottom with no problems after removing the starter, dipstick, and alternator. I did not have to jack the motor up at all on either side to get the headers in. Spark plug access is awesome with the pacesetters. I would say it is better than the Hookers that I used to have, although plug access is pretty good on the Hookers as well.

I only ran into one problem with the motor mounts. I had to trim the passenger side motor mount just a little bit in order to bolt it back to the k-member b/c the prothane mount is much bigger than the stock rubber one. Other than that I am very pleased especially since the driver's side does not hit the floorboard like my Hookers did. I would definately recommend these headers to anybody thinking about getting them. It looks like they have fixed the problems that people have had with them in the past. I would say that putting in polyurethane motor mounts is a must just to be sure that everything is going to clear like it's supposed to.

EDIT: I got a chance to get back under the car again to source the vibration and it was actually coming from where the y-pipe passes over the trans tunnel brace. I removed the brace and no more vibrations.

Also, the pacesetter y-pipe just barely touches the stock torque arm and vibrates a little bit. I'll have to get back under the car when I have some more time to figure something out there. The new motor mounts probably helped some of the fitment issues. My collectors used to hit the floorboard on the drivers side under load untill i put in the poly mounts.

The new design helped fitment issues, the mounts were a + to have.
