Looks like Pacesetter has made some improvements

My new pacesetter LTs arrived yesterday and it looks like they have been listening to complaints. I was just comparing some pictures that Brent94Z posted a long time ago of his pacesetters to mine and it looks like they have made some subtle changes. I read quite a few posts about the #2 cylinder primary hitting the a/c line, but it looks like they rebent that tube. It now runs straight back out of the cylinder head instead of coming out at a slight downward angle like it used to.

Old Style

I was also told that they revised the #1 primary tube to clear the steering shaft better, but it's too hard for me to tell from looking at pictures of old pacesetters. Maybe someone with the old style headers can compare them to the pictures that I have taken and post up if they see any difference.

I will be installing the headers this weekend along with a new set of poly motor mounts so that they won't hit the floorboard. I'll let you guys know if these changes have taken care of some of the complaints that I've been reading about, and I'll post some pics. So far I am very pleased with the quality of the headers especially for how much they cost. You just can't beat it. I had a set of Hooker LTs on one of my old cars and ground clearance was minimal, so I can't wait to see how these things look installed.

Here is just a suggestion if you dont want leaks at the collector...

Have some 3 bolt flanges welded on to the headers and the y-pipe before you install them. The slip fit sucks.

I agree. The price is very good for the pacesetters + y-pipe, but the slip fit sucks. If I had to do it again, jet hots + y-pipe. Better coating, and a flange.

I be it's gonna be a *itch and a half to put plugs on the pass. side. Also, looks like you can't use over-the-valve-cover plug wires either ... ?
I'd go with the jet-hots

Re: Looks like Pacesetter has made some improvements

i bought the pacesetter lt's also over the summer, they look just like the ones you just received of course i figured thats how they are suppose to look.

to be honest i really don't feel like they clear the steering column any better though, mine is practically rubbing the steering column and i don't have that plastic tubing around it either.

other than that the lt's have worked great so far. i didn't use the gaskets that came with them though since i have ported heads, i bought some from summit that actually worked out really well.

Just the design of it (old or new) seems a bit hard to work with. I've installed tons of jethot LT's (better flange at head has 3 bolt flange welded on at the collector) and have never had an issue with access to the mounting bolts or the spark plugs ... and you can use the OVC wire kit. Doesn't look like the driver side of the Pacesetters are gonna accept a OVC kit 'cos the #1 tube goes so close to the valve cover. I'm not gonna even think about getting the bolts started/tightened on them. Even the pass. side looks like a bitch to work on plugs. All I do when I install the driver side is to take off the steering linkage and bend the tabs in the flex joint flat in and they don't hit.

I always thought that pacesetter had better plug clearance than hooker and jet-hot?

Re: Looks like Pacesetter has made some improvements

I can swap my plugs in 30-45 minutes.

The fit is good on my headers, i didnt have any problems, they are the newer design. I think the major draw back to the Pacesetter is the slip fits, but i just weleded on the flanges and i dont have any problems with leaks.

I'm glad they did come thru when they used my car for some R&D work a few months ago to check some issues out!

Yeah I found your old post about that, and that is what sparked my interest to compare pictures of the new pacesetters to the old ones. I can't really say anything right now as far as the fit of the new headers or whether or not it is possible to do an OTVC setup with them with the changes they've made since I haven't even installed them yet. I just thought it would be intersting to get a thread started about the changes they have made since I didn't see that anyone else had talked about it in all the searches I did. Personally I never liked the three bolt flange on my hookers. They always leaked, but most of all that is the part of the header that would bottom out. Then again I've never had any experience with slip fit headers so.....I can't wait to install them and I'll be sure to post up any issues I have.

NOTE: I added another picture of the passenger header from a different angle to show how much space is between the #2 primary and the header flange.
