Looking for some quieter rockers???
I got the composite covers. There was a very slight reduction in noise. Not worth it if I had to do it again.
Yeah, if I were still running the double springs I wouldn't want to run the aluminum rockers...but with the double springs there was not near as much noise as with beehives. With the lighter seat pressures of the beehives I'm not too concerned with the aluminum.
I have already played this game back when I had le1's and a gm847 with the crane dual spring kit. The pro mags were loud, not just a little, people literally accused me of having a soild roller. So after awhile I got tired of hearing it and swapped to scorpions, as soon as I heard it on the first startup I couldnt believe how much difference it made the rockers were no longer audible inside the car. Sometime later I decided to put more cash into the heads run a bigger cam and do some intake work, and when to shaft mounts. It is pretty much dead silent now, the injectors and lifters and headers are what you hear with that setup.
No but I dont have stock size or length valves, I have ebay cast aluminum valve covers that I had to do a little adjustment on. I had a set of proform covers sitting on it on the stand but i have a pontiac and a motor that says chevy wont do. I also do not have the probe rockers, I have t&d machine on my lt1 currently. I just know that Karl Ellwein has used a few probe shafts. I liked the set I have put on some dart pro 1's on a gen 1 chevy 383. Might talk to Karl about it on lt1's. I didnt have to do anything but adjust the shims for the stands on the pro 1's and then measure and order pushrods.
Well today I had the time so I swapped out the promags with some Crane Golds...Not much difference so I think I may have some worn valve guides that is cause all the noise. It was a little quiter but there is a definite clacking in there and it has been getting progressively louder.
I did find one rocker with worn alignment tabs on it where it looked like it had popped off the valve tip so I suspect thats my real bad valve guide.
I have a brand new pair of LE1.5 heads that I guess I have a reason to swap on now.....

Well..today I drove it a few miles up the road to the parts store and it has quitened down alot. Still has one distinct clacker. Must have needed to oil up in all the right places, I did coat them down with oil after the install. Still going to swap heads in a week or two...the ones on there now where used and I think they are part of my long standing problem of not making the power they should have with the setup I have...
It could be a bad lifter that isn't pumping up, so the rocker is bouncing around on the valve. When I changed out my stock lifters for LS7's a bit of the ticking went away. Still watching your results though, I want to ditch these Pro Mags as well.

The car is on jackstands right now, getting the usual winter maintenance and a set of plugs etc.
