Looking to LT1'ers for HELP! Broke stud on rear Drum(V6)!!
Broke a stud on my rear "drum" brakes while roatating my tires and I don't know exactly how to fix it! Can I fix it myself? How much will it cost? Let me know what to do and any other informtion I may need to know (i.e.- how to take of the rear drum, etc). Thanks!!!
PS---Can I drive on it (4 of 5 lugs) to get the replacement part? or to dealership?

i have never messed with drums on these cars but i imagine it is just like any other car. You just take the rim off the drum will pull off. Then take a big hammer drive the stud out and go to the local parts house and get another the same size and drive it back in. For some reason while i was trying to torque down my rims to the factory specs i broke 3 studs and it only took a few min. to replace.
Why u guys talkin about drums? You said u have disk brakes. Just take off the rotor and pound out the broken stud with a hammer. Get a new one from the parts place and pound it from the back. You are gonna need a big hammer. If you cant get at the back of the axle flange, I dont know if you can, slip the stud in and stack up a bunch of washers on the front. Put a lug nut on it, and hit it with an impact gun, should draw the stud right in.
Should be easy, only takes a few minutes, and the studs are cheap.
Good luck

Just found that another one of the studs has been stripped! So much for a certain unnamed auto center!
If anyone can also help me with this dilemma, PLEASE feel free to do so!!! All comments, questions, and answers are welcome. I need to get this fixed ASAP!!! Thanks!
If you can not get the drum off you will have to unadjust the brakes so you can pull off.If you look in the back there should be a rubber plug. If not you should see a area that is indented form the rest of the backing plate (looks like a oversize pill)(sometimes in the drum itself). If you have the indent you have to knock that in with a screwdriver or chisel so so can get at the adjuster. The adjuster is a small wheel that has small teeth on it.Spinning one way tightens (moves the shoes farther apart)the other way lossen them (collaspes the shoes). They make tools for adjusting drum brakes but you can do it with screwdrivers. It will take two because you have to move the adjusting lever off the wheel. You are going to have to figure out which it spins , tightening them you will here it click.
The studs are not bad to change.Like it was said before use a nut that is bigger than the stud for a spacer and put the lugnut on backwards. Then just tighten the nut to pull it thourgh the axle flange. This will be a pain with out a impact but can be done.Hope this helps.
