Never got pics of the final product, those were almost done, don't know if that helps you at all.

Oh yeah, my heads are comming off the car and getting reworked so I will get pics of them then for you... Completely forgot about that. Should have pics in a week or so, I'll try to remember about this thread.

Did 'Carter' do a set of heads for you previously?

Re: Looking for LT1 ported chamber pics

I'm specifically looking for work on the chamber itself. I need to open it up around 6CCs to drop my compression to 9.4 to 1 (it's at 10 to 1 now).

I'm in the same boat as you. Building a 383 with 6" rods and it is about 9.5:1 SC with a -26cc piston, .005 deck & .040 gasket and the heads I've got. I have AFR LT4 heads at a minimum 56cc config which actually measure 58.5 cc or so, but need to be resurfaced. I called AFR up to see if they could enlarge the chambers and they said no because they would hit a water jacket - they can make the chambers smaller (ie: 74cc head down to 64cc) but not larger. All the heads there start out as 74cc and they mill them down to get the smaller chamber for the LTx. It looks like there's room to get a few more ccs out of the chamber, but I'm not sure how to attack it or even if I should. I still have the choice of gasket thickness & deck height, but don't want to end up with a big quench. Might have to live with what I've got, it's low boost anyway.

Re: Looking for LT1 ported chamber pics

Lloyd Elliot informed me that a significant amount of material can come off between unshrouding the valves and rounding the spark plug knot on the factory LT1 castings. I would think you could get at least the same off the AFRs.

Another board member named kirschman posted up some excellent pics of his finished chambers; heres the link:

I'm having mine done right now by a local porter and will post up pics after they are finished.

Cheers,
John

Thanks - I took another look at the chambers and I think I will put a gasket on there and see where I can take some out. I'm sure I can do it, I just don't want to mess up the swirl. I'll take some before/after photos if I decide to go ahead and give it a try.

Be sure to leave a couple thousanths on the edges for gasket compression (squish/flatening).
