looking to do a rebuild

im thinking its a bout time to do a rebuild on my 93. im on a VERY STRICT budget, so i need a cheap kit. i want to do the normal rebuild and i also want to do the heads too, prot polish and maybe mill the heads just a scoch to raise the compression. i can do my own work since i work at a gm dealer. i am curious about the 355 set-up, how much if any machine work is involved. would an lt-4 kit be the same as a lt-1 kit?? and lastly, where is the best place to buy a good kit. thanx in advance for the help.

For a 355 the only machine work needed would be a bore/hone. A Torque plate could be used which would cost a couple extra bucks, maybe zero deck it, hot tank it, line hone/4bolt mains if you wanted...

For a 383 you would probably have to clearence the block also.

With a 355 if you were staying NA you could reuse your crank and rods just get new pistons...

All depends on your goals, NA, N20, Boost, etc...

First off get that word "Cheap" OUT of your vocab, nothing should ever be done cheaply.

go here http://www.nu-tekmotorsports.com they have machining prices and rotating assemblies.

I personally would NEVER reuse piston or our rods, all junk!, Crank is ok at best so at least get new comppoents.

Check around your local shops for prices.

Hope you know what your doing cus if anything is off, BAM!!

Order this book it will save your wallet

Well with a 93 your rods aren't too bad. I don't really know about the powdered rod of the 94+. But you can get a decent set of new I beams pretty cheap like scat or eagle off ebay. The summit rebuild kit and the machine work. If you did the R&R yourself and put it together yourself you could do it for about the same price as any other small block. The real big expense over traditions SB is the gaskets.

The crank is fine there are guy running 537rwhp on that crank! Now that is prob pushing it but still it sounds like you just want it running good again. While you have it out though I would spend another 600 and get that valvetrain package from CMotorsports or at least a 475 hot cam kit.

Peace
