Re: looking for a Cam

There are really many, although it is hard to find one that works well on your setup. If you are going to be that picky on your cam selection (not a bad thing at all) just have a custom ground cam from bret bauer or joe overton. With a custom cam, you can taylor your drivability vs. hp and such. you can basically pick as lumpy or as soft as you want, more or less duration, and more or less lift. It all has to work, of course, but guys like bauer and overton can help you find that perfect cam without having to sacrifice much or anything in the major catagories. for 300-330 you can have a billet cam ground for you by those guys. they can also set you up with the best springs for that cam. Most shelf cams are around 250 already, so i'd rather spend the extra 50-80 bucks and get excactly what i want. I have a bauer cam and i love the cam, although a POS shortblock has held back some of the power. the cam i have has great low end and peaks power at around 6400rpm. the best part is, it doesn't need rpm to make power like the cc306 is often accused of. i believe the cam i have was tested at making around 300rwhp at around 4200-4500 or so and around 350 at 6400 on a completely stock motor (exception of headers). torque was equal to power throughout most of the powerband. peak torque (350ft.lbs. or so) was around 3500-4000 i believe. this is all done being more streetable than a cc306 in a 6 spd car. anyways, i'd spend the extra cash for a custom grind.
