i currently purchased a 1993 camaro z28 auto hardtop. i know nobody seems to like the 93, i know the computer is different but why is it so bad. also what will it take to get it to beat my friends 1999 trans am ws6. i bought this car to have fun with but im not looking to sink a fortune into it. let me know what you guys think is the best route to go.
Welcome to owning a 93. Personally they're great cars. Modifying them is a lot like modifying a third gen, the ECM is very similar in fact. These cars actually require chips to re-tune them, like the third gen, whereas the later cars can be re-tuned by plugging into the OBD port. It makes it a little harder to get a dyno tune, but not impossible. They are also Speed density as opposed to a MAF programming. Some, including myself, will say that the SD tune is dramatically better in running the car. IMO it makes for less parts and less issues, and from what I'm told it's easier to tune them for big cams and racing. Again most of this is hearsay, but I like it none the less. As for taking on the 99, he needs to stay stock first and foremost. Then you'll have to look into a full exhaust, an intake, and IMO a gear and converter. Then start looking at the rest of the bolt-ons. Pulley, free mods, etc. I'd go for a cam and maybe some head work and you'll definately be there if not then some. And then there's always the giggle gas. Anyway you do it, you'll have a lot of fun getting to know your car and playing with it.
thanks alot that helps me understand what i got. the 93 is pretty quick id have to say, but my god that stock ws6 is a monster. i just dont have ls1 money. im open to everyones opinion, im kinda new to fuel injection and computers but im young and like the drivabilty of the injection. anyways the car has a ton of miles 194000 but runs good, would it still be ok to put a little nitrous to it. maybe 100 shot. and other than the computer does all the lt1 stuff from other years work on the 93.
