Having had both, long tubes are far easier to work with, have better ground clearance, and provide (marginally) better HP gains. Ground clearance is reduced slightly, but using slip-fit collectors helps by about half an inch.

I have longtubes on my car,I started out with SLP Shorties........ much more power was the transition, the slight amount of ground clearance was well worth it! My collectors are slip fit and it takes a hell of a speed bump or radical dip in the road to hit my exhaust. I am also sporting true duals with an X pipe.

I have as&m mid tubes, and like them. They have 1 3/4 inch primaries, but use the stock cat location. Probably giving up a few hp with them, but with my setup, I think they are good and have stock ground clearance. If I was stepping up to 450hp and above, then I would go with long tubes, but these mid tubes really perform. So depends on your build, but they are definitely a option in my book.

Re: lonng tube or mid tube headers

My car came with Edelbrock TES mids and they were ok. Now I run LPP stainless and though I haven't run them, as mentioned before, they are much easier to work around than my mids. I've had the y and intermediate pipe out more times than I can count and it takes about 5min to pull it all off. Headers would take a bit more work since I have to get the car higher to get them out.

Both options are better than stock manifolds though. Don't miss those.
