LongTubes VS Shorties???

What the difference between the two, longtubes and shorties?
I tried a search and got millions of results, but none that really helped me.

From what I understand the LT's cost more but give more HP then the shorties, but the LT's wont fit on a lowered car.
what else should I know befor I deside on what ones I want?
Sorry if this is kinda a dumb question, still a n00b with all this stuff.

Ok well first off the longtubes are not emissions legal because they get rid of the cat or move it to a different position. Also with longtubes you will need to get a custom y-pipe made. Longtubes will give you more hp all around, but shorties will give you more torque. The only emissions legal longtubes are the FLP's, but they are expensive. Like $1,200. Just make sure you get get whatever headers Jet coated to reduce engine heat and rusting.

I don't think there is much if any gain over SLP shorties except a smoother power curve.

So SLP makes the best shorties? i'd like to keep my car all SLP if i can.
With headers are 3" pipes all the way back needed then? or does it depend on the Y-pipe?
And i have the TOTL exhaust, is this going to be free flowing enough for headers? or should i upgrade this as well?

You can put L/Ts on a lowered LS1, so im pretty sure an LT1 as well. My buddy Joe has a 98 SS convert lowered 2" and fits FLP longtubes under there. Theres about a 2-3 inch clearance as well.
If you dont want Longtubes then I would go MAC. The gains are pretty good, usually 3-4 tenths and 3 or so mph depending if you go O/R pipe.

Shorties search

ok, find a post that answers my question please.
the words come up so often that search is almost useless in this case, but it is how I found the limmited knowledge that i already posted.
also I thought that sigs were to be kept under 5 lines?

once again - there are NO emissions legal long tube headers. FLP's will allow you to pass a sniffer test because of the cats, but then again so will any other LT if you put cats on it.

FLP's are not legal because like all other long tube headers they relocate the cats, which is against the law.

My buddy has a pimp exhaust set up, coated hookers tapped for smog, dual cats, the passenger cat is in the stock place, but it exits out right by the passenger door. The same with the driver side, exits right at the driver side door.

I'm pretty sure the headers on the quick time website are LS1 not LT1. Notice the center exhaust tubes are seperated?

I doubt there i smuch difference for the hassel with clearance, what I like about SLP is it retains the D shape ports

I can tell you that there is a huge difference in sound. I am very happy with my hooker long tubes. i don't think i'd be as happy with any shorty or midlength. but thats just my thoughts. i would say spend the extra money on the long tubes. i have no problems with clearance but my car isn't lowered.
