Longtubes causing 02 sensors to go out????
i replaced both of my O2 sensors and got real extentions instead of doing it myself and now they read perfect and my BLMs are nearly perfect....just hope they stay this way.
one possibility that i have concidered is that the sensor has in some way or another come in contact with RTV silicone. silicone i hear will ruin them pretty quick. if you used some to seal either the sensor itself or up ahead of it on the headers..it is possible they got silicone in them.

I've been waiting for this question to come up. I had this happen to one of my brand new GM o2 sensors almost immediately after I got the engine in. I put in a Wells as a replacement on that side and I haven't had a problem for over a year. I welded the o2 bung in half way down the collector tube on my old 69 headers. I hope just replacing it solves the problem for us!
I've recently developed a similar problem with one of my O2 sensors, it would stay between 416 and 9XX and I didn't even get an SES light. Although I've had an SES light in the past because of it. My LTtrims are also split at idle with the messed up sensor side reading -13%, all the other cells are fine though. The messed up side has the O2 sensor I extended over a year ago, so I just went ahead and ordered 2 new O2 sensors and a real extension. Hopefully this will fix my problem.

FWIW I reused my original (120k) non-heated O2s when I installed my longtubes. My car never reached closed loop, but ran great and still got around 17mpg (staying in open loop at all times). Soma07 was nice enough to supply me with the wiring diagram for the heated O2 conversion, but I never got around to it.
I would've liked to see if my mileage would've increased with functioning O2s, but I'll never know for sure as my car is out of commission and probably won't return to the road in its former state.

I think after I get my car tuned it should solve most of these problems. I do have a new Opti in it and my 02 does take a whiles to go into closed loop but they do go into closed loop after about 5 minutes of warming up the car and about 3 minutes of driving the car.
I never replaced the O2s yet but will eventually and will let you guys know if it helps or not..
I increased my spark advance at idle (closed TPS spark advance) and that improved my idle and brought my BLMs closer to 128. Still need to see if my new O2s last longer with the new heads/head gaskets and tweaked advance.

Here's a thought... if the longtubes scavenge more, perhaps they are pulling more through the MAF. If the MAF is getting wierd numbers, that will affect the BLMs and A/F Mixture. What is your MAF reading? Increasing the values richens the mixture, lower values lean... correct me if I'm wrong.
