Longtube Install Success

Well, I installed my pacesetter longtubes for my 1997 T/A. It took me and my mechanic buddy about ten hours to install the headers, y pipe, ovc plugs and all the other little stuff. If anybody wants to know they went in from the bottom by removing the starter and the steering linkage.

Overall I love the headers and would highly reccomend them.

But there are always two sides of the story, the car feels fast but I guess i was expecting something more. The car used to chirp the tires when I shifted into second but now it won't. Is this normal? I am putting on the LT4 KM tomorrow. Will that solve the problem?

I believe long tubes don't help the low end any, which would explain why it won't chirp the tires.

Give the cars computer time to adapt to the headers should run stronger when it learns.Did you get rid of the cats?Remember to tighten up the header bolts after the next few times you drive the car goodtigthy.

There's such a loss in backpressure that it will feel slower in lower RPM's, but ****, mine pulls like a raped ape in 2nd (anywhere in 1st it spins the tires )

Computer will learn, hooking up the rest of the exhaust will help a lot too. All that noise/vibration is sure to cause some false knock with open headers.

Yeah the car runs smooth as silk, maybe I haven't given the computer enough time to adjust. Let me tell you though I got to open it up a little bit tongiht. Going WOT from a 60 mph roll in third gear is amazing. It really hauls at higher speeds but the lack of torque is still troubling me a bit.

Give it a few days. If I remember right mine was like that when I first installed them. Now I cant get any traction anywhere in 1st (as you can see in video in sig) and 2nd spins quite nicely going into it. Are you sure you not actually spinning silently rather than the usual chirp of the tires?

Kind of off topic here, but does everyone like the pacesetter longtubes??? Has anyone had any fitment issues on different years??

I am in Tucson, AZ and they actually used my 95 camaro to build the longtubes, and since then we haven't had any complaints on fitment, but I'm curious if they are out there and we aren't hearing...

BTW I picked up 20rwhp swapping from JBA shorties to pacesetter longtubes... and the price... ohh so right..

To 25thBird: No we didn't have to jack up the motor at all.

To kindaslo: I like the quality, mine fit great. They don't rub anywhere, not even the steering linkage.
