Cool Long tubes and no mufflers

Im running Jet Hot long tubes completely free on my 97 LT1. No muffler, no cats, just long tubes to Loudmouth. Its ridiculously loud, just like I like it. My question is, am I losing power with no backpressure that I would be getting from a chambered muffler or cats? Also, what are you guys opinion of the best muffler to go with? I was gonna go with the Mufflex dual chamber muffler and just replace the resonator that comes on the SLP Loudmouth.

Re: Long tubes and no mufflers

you could replace the resonator with a chambered muffler from www.sweet-thunder.com
http://www.sweet-thunder.com/chamber...html#stainless

a full size muffler wont fit in the location of the LM's resonator, you need a round bullet style muffler or one of those chambered pieces

do you have the weird resonance at about 2300-2600rpm with your exhaust?
mine did when i ran the same setup as you

Simple, thats actually were it backfires is between those rpm's.....but after that is sounds like the world is coming to an end. I love coming up on Cobras and Hondas and making their ears bleed. I was gonna get a regular muffler and just bend some kind of s-bend, or just get one of those Warlock mufflers from Summit that has the built it cutout.

Antz, it does make more power top end wise, like running a cut out at the track, but bottom end it kinda bogs more than it should had I had more back pressure.

backfires? i never had that issue, mine just sounded really "tinny" (for lack of better word) within those few hundred rpm at part throttle acceleration
WOT, it really wasnt noticeable

Re: Long tubes and no mufflers

i have pacesetter LT's, 3'' y-pipe to a 3" cutout, then into an LS1 muffler. it sounds insane w/ the cutout uncapped, and sounds like a magnaflow catback w/ cutout closed. im just waiting to get my QTP plate to finish up the setup. most people think that my car is stock when i have the cutout closed. i really notice some low end tq loss when i have the cutout open, but thats also do to the fact that i have a 3000 stall. i would say get a silencer in place of the resonator, then put an electric cutout before it. i enjoy the sleeper effect of the LS1 muffler, but its going to be more fun when i get the electric cutout. i was going for the exact same setup as yours, but i didnt want to draw too much attention to myself. any ways on your setup!!
